Emergency on the tanker occurred during engine start

The tanker Koala, carrying 130,000 tons of fuel oil, has begun to sink in the port of Ust-Luga (Leningrad Region). The incident occurred on February 9 during engine start.

According to the region's governor, Alexander Drozdenko, the cause of the incident was man-made damage to the engine room. There is no threat of oil spill.

All 24 crew members (including four Russians) were evacuated, no one was injured.

According to Telegram channels, emergency services received information about three explosions in the engine room. This information has not been officially confirmed.

The tanker Koala sails under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda. It was at the third pier at the time of the incident. Specialists are conducting a survey of the vessel to determine the exact causes of the accident.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that a cargo ship with 700 tons of fuel oil ran aground in the Sakhalin region due to a storm.
