Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev checked how the process of pumping oil products from the tanker "Volgoneft-239" is proceeding near Cape Panagia and held a meeting of the government commission in Anapa.
About 1,300 tons of fuel oil have already been pumped out of the four tanks in the stern section out of a total volume of 1,400 tons. The work is on schedule, and its completion is expected by Monday morning.
Later, the government announced that the pumping of fuel oil from the stern of the tanker was fully completed. Specialists have started dismantling the stern of the tanker on site. According to the order of the captain of the seaport of Taman, the work must be completed by the end of January. The vessel is planned to be disposed of by the end of March.
To prevent oil spills into the Black Sea, a protective hydraulic structure was created around the stern of the tanker. It also protects the work site from adverse weather conditions.
The meeting of the government commission summarized the results of work to eliminate the consequences of the emergency over the past week.
