Ivan Yankovsky and Yura Borisov will play the first Russian racers in the sports retro drama "Battle of Motors". Ilya Malinin will direct the film about the formation of the Russian automotive industry.
The future film is based on the real story of racer Andrei Nagel (Yankovsky) and his navigator Dmitry Bondarev (Borisov). According to the plot, in 1911, Nagel, together with his navigator, set off from St. Petersburg to Monaco in a Russo-Balt 24/30 car to participate in the rally.
It is known that Alexey Guskov and Paulina Andreeva will also star in the film. The latter will play the role of a racer in love with Nagel.
Nagel at the wheel of his "Russo-Balt" covered the distance from the Russian capital to the Principality of Monaco in 196 hours. Nagel was in a hurry to start the "Monte Carlo" rally, driving a more powerful version of the C24/30 - with a 55-horsepower engine and a maximum speed of 110 km/h. In the race itself, the Russian pilot took 9th place and received a special prize for "Range and reliability of the car".
Work on the film is scheduled to begin in January 2025. Filming will take place not only in Russia, but some scenes will be filmed in Serbia and Montenegro.
It is worth noting that it recently became known that Borisov is going to be nominated for an Oscar for his role in the American film "Anora".
