Russian military personnel have deployed strike drones to destroy unmanned surface vehicles (BEC) in the Black Sea instead of combat helicopter crews. The first footageappeared online.
The video shows an X-UAV loitering munition destroying a BEC from the board of an Orion reconnaissance drone.
Military expert Evgeny Damantsev noted that this tactic will displace outdated methods of combating BEC with crews of multi-purpose and transport-attack helicopters Mi-8 and Mi-24VP
They were forced to approach the BEC at a distance of less than 2 km to use PKM, GShG-7.62 and AP GSh-23L machine guns. Ultimately, this could lead to the launch of R-73RMD-2 missiles in anti-aircraft modification from the BEC guides at our rotorcraft.
A former pilot previously suggested thatthe problem with enemy BECs will be resolved when the military learns to effectively jam the communication system frequencies for the boats. At the same time, he recalled that in three years, neither side has been able to do this.
