The Russian medium-range ballistic missile "Oreshnik" may not be the newest weapon, but a modernized version of the RS-26 "Rubezh" intercontinental ballistic missile system. This was reported by The Economist.
According to Western journalists, fragments of the missile contain elements manufactured back in 2016 and 2017. This suggests that "Oreshnik" is not the latest development, the authors of the material note.
"Oreshnik" is a demonstration of force aimed at a Western audience, and a reminder of Russia's nuclear potential.
Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the warheads of "Oreshnik" attack targets at speeds of up to Mach 10, or about 3 km/s, at a range of up to 5,500 km, and Western missile defense systems have no way to intercept them.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the innovative fiber-optic drone "Knyaz Vandal Novgorodsky" will become completely Russian.
