Power Unit No. 5 with the BN-1200M reactor is planned to be built at the Beloyarsk NPP in 2025. In 2024, its construction was included in the investment program of capital investments of the "Rosenergoatom" concern. In 2025, the preparatory phase of work will begin, including the laying of roads and temporary networks to provide the construction site. This was reported by the press service of the "Rosatom" state corporation.
2025 will mark the beginning of large-scale work for the next 8-10 years. The new power unit will create thousands of jobs and attract investment for the development of the region.
According to him, in the future, the power unit will provide up to 25% of electricity production in the Sverdlovsk region.
In addition, the director of the NPP spoke about the work carried out on the fourth power unit. Last year, fuel assemblies with the addition of minor actinides were loaded there for the first time. Experts want to check whether it is possible to safely dispose of such hazardous substances. The fact is that fast neutron reactors can significantly reduce the amount of radioactive waste generated during the operation of nuclear power plants.
