The Su-57 is an advanced Russian frontline aircraft. It is assembled at a factory in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. Russia hoped that the Su-57, created as a response to the American F-35 and the Chinese J-20 Mighty Dragon, would force India to reconsider its decision to purchase stealth aircraft.

Putin's Visit to India

In November 2024, Russian media reported that the date of Vladimir Putin's visit to India would be known in early 2025. As suggested by the author of the Eurasian Times, the trip may coincide with Aero India (February 10-14). He did not rule out that the Russian leader would discuss the Su-57 with his Indian counterparts.

There is speculation that President Putin may make a new offer to supply the Su-57 to India with the possibility of joint production under the "Made in India" initiative.

The author also emphasized that Russia has reduced the cost of the Su-57 and is ready for payment in Indian rupees. The mechanism of settlements in national currency could be of interest to New Delhi.

The Indian Air Force has more than 250 Su-30MKIs in service, and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has experience in producing Russian fighters under license. If the country establishes production of the Su-57, this will be a restart of defense cooperation between Russia and India.
