Nearly 38 million tons were transported via the Northern Sea Route in 2024. This is 1.6 million tons more than last year, according to Rosatom.
The year of the 65th anniversary of the nuclear icebreaker fleet was not only a year of record cargo transportation. In January, we laid down the icebreaker \"Leningrad,\" and in November, we launched the \"Chukotka.\"
In 2024, 92 transit voyages were completed along the Northern Sea Route (NSR), setting a new record, and the volume of cargo exceeded 3 million tons. This figure is one and a half times higher than in 2023.
Last year, the largest container ship in history, the Flying Fish 1, passed through the NSR, completing the route in less than six days. The ship's ice class is ICE 1, its length is 294 meters, its draft is 12.3 meters, and its carrying capacity is 4843 TEU. The ship crossed the border of the Northern Sea Route on September 11 in the area of Cape Zhelaniya and left the NSR water area on September 17 in the area of Cape Dezhnev.
In addition, the crews of nuclear icebreakers provided 976 icebreaker escorts and provided navigational support services to 72 vessels.
