Poll: 64% of Russians Have Used Biometrics at Least Once

The most common reason for submitting biometrics is to obtain new-style foreign passports

A VTB poll showed that 64% of Russians use or have used biometrics at least once to unlock devices or confirm actions.

34% of Russians submitted biometric data at multifunctional centers (MFCs), on "Gosuslugi" or at bank branches, and among residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg, this figure reaches 39%. The most common reason for submitting biometrics is to obtain new-style foreign passports (24%).

In addition, 36% of Russians submitted biometrics in government agencies, at work, or in visa centers of other countries. Almost 40% of respondents noted that they used biometric terminals, for example, at customs and in airport business lounges (19%), at work (12%), or in other places (8%).

In 2024, terminals for face payment became noticeably widespread. 25% of Russians have used them at least once. 5% use this technology constantly.

The survey was conducted by VTB from December 12 to 20, 2024, among 1,500 people aged 18 to 65 in Russian cities with a population of more than 100,000 people.
