In Russia, there is wheeled military equipment that is as good as American equipment. For example, the BTR-82A, produced by the Arzamas Machine-Building Plant, is not inferior to the M1126 Stryker. This is according to Bulgarian Military.
The BTR-82A with an 8x8 wheel arrangement began operation in 2013. The armored personnel carrier is a deep modernization of the BTR-80, which has been in service since 1986. Is it from the USSR? The BTR-82A's competitor is the M1126 Stryker (produced at General Dynamics Land Systems facilities), which was adopted by the US Army in 2003. It is based on the Canadian LAV III IFV.
The M1126 Stryker is equipped with a Caterpillar diesel engine (350 hp) and a six-speed Allison automatic transmission. The BTR-82A has a KamAZ 740.14-300 diesel engine (300 hp) and a five-speed manual transmission.
The BTR-82A moves through the water at a speed of 9 km/h, using a water jet propulsion system. American designers sacrificed the buoyancy of their APC to improve other characteristics.
As journalists at Bulgarian Military emphasize, the protection of the M1126 Stryker crew is higher than that of the BTR-82A. However, "hanging additional armor on the steel bumper of an armored personnel carrier does not turn it into a tank". In addition, the BTR has other tasks — delivering motorized riflemen to their destination and providing fire support.
The BTR-82A is armed with a 30-mm AP 2A72, as well as a 7.62-mm PKTM. The M1126 Stryker received a 12.7 mm M2 Browning machine gun (40 mm Mk 19 grenade launcher) or a 7.62 mm M240 machine gun.
