Russia has a fleet of strategic bombers that it can use in the event of a conflict in the Pacific region. Western media claim that there is a secret list of more than 160 potential targets for attacks in Japan and South Korea. These are airbases, radar systems, naval ports and command centers, writes Bulgarian Military.
In addition to the list of targets, the secret documents also reveal specific operational plans involving the use of modern non-nuclear weapons - the Kh-101 cruise missile.
According to Bulgarian Military, Kh-101 missiles will be carried to the target by intercontinental supersonic strategic missile carriers with variable sweep wings Tu-160.
One of the documents describes a mission in 2014. Two turboprop strategic missile carriers Tu-95 allegedly took off from a Russian base in the Far East for reconnaissance over Japan and South Korea. Thus, Russian pilots assessed the readiness of the air defense systems of Asian countries.
About the Kh-101 missile
An unnamed military expert said in an interview with Bulgarian Military that the Kh-101 missile is known for its accuracy, low radar signature and advanced navigation systems. He stressed that the missile can fly at low altitudes. This reduces the possibility of interception.
Kh-101 missiles have destructive power. A conventional warhead causes significant damage to the enemy's infrastructure. Tu-160 bombers could launch the Kh-101 outside the reach of interceptors.
Bulgarian Military journalists emphasize that the use of Tu-160 and Tu-95 bombers with Kh-101 missiles will provide"a quick and decisive strike at the very heart of the enemy's defense".
President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that Russia does not plan to attack anyone. At the same time, the country has modern weapons and a powerful defense industry to ensure its security and sovereignty.
