Head of State Vladimir Putin instructed the Cabinet of Ministers, as well as Russian Railways and Sberbank, to develop and adopt all the necessary decisions to create a high-speed railway line between Moscow and St. Petersburg. The President announced these tasks at a meeting with members of the government.
The most important thing is to ensure the financing of the project and provide state support to Russian manufacturers who are involved in creating high-speed rolling stock for the new railway line.
The deadline for completion is January 5. The following are responsible for the execution: Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, General Director of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov, and Chairman of the Board of Sberbank German Gref.
The construction of the Moscow — St. Petersburg high-speed railway is a unique project for Russia, where there are no such transport arteries yet. The магистраль is expected to be fully opened in 2028. The HSR Moscow — St. Petersburg will pass through the territory of six subjects of Russia, connecting Moscow, St. Petersburg, as well as the Moscow, Tver, Novgorod, and Leningrad regions.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the first experimental train for the Moscow – St. Petersburg high-speed railway will be delivered at the end of 2026 – beginning of 2027.
