American Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems in Germany are not suitable for countering the Russian hypersonic medium-range missile "Oreshnik" due to its speed and maneuverability. This is evidenced by a secret report from the German Foreign Office, which was obtained by Bild.
Germany is concerned about Russia's plans to deploy "Oreshnik" in Belarus in the second half of 2025 in response to the deployment of American missiles in Germany, the journalists noted.
Germany has no effective weapons against ballistic missiles other than the Patriot complexes. The Patriot is not suitable for countering long-range ballistic missiles such as the "Oreshnik". Any interception of the "Oreshnik" would be more of a stroke of luck.
The report also states that the German government has decided to purchase the Israeli Arrow anti-missile system as additional protection.
Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the warheads of the "Oreshnik" attack targets at speeds of up to Mach 10, or about 3 km/s, and Western air defense systems have no way to intercept them.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the Russian flag was raised on the newest nuclear icebreaker "Yakutia".
