The Russian government has decided to restrict the use of IP telephony in order to combat telephone fraud. In particular, licenses for the transmission of Internet data with the imposition of voice information were canceled, which eliminates the possibility of spoofing numbers and using this technology by fraudsters.
According to the decision, the possibility of connecting data transmission networks to telephone communication networks will be excluded, which will make telephone fraud based on IP telephony more difficult.
The authorities assure that the changes will not affect ordinary users, as calls via messengers and other Internet programs remain available for communication.
Thus, the main goal of the changes is to limit the possibilities for fraudsters using IP telephony to commit illegal actions, while not hindering ordinary calls via the Internet.
