В Новосибирске улучшили удержание плазмы с помощью оптимальной структуры магнитного поля

The data will help in future studies of thermonuclear fusion

At the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics SB RAS (BINP SB RAS), the efficiency of plasma confinement in the SMOLA device was increased by applying a helical magnetic field. This was reported by the university's press service.

Thermonuclear fusion devices are equipped with closed or open magnetic traps. In open systems, the ratio of plasma pressure to magnetic field pressure is very high, and the outflow of matter occurs through the end openings.

Scientists at the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics SB RAS (BINP SB RAS) have improved plasma confinement in the SMOLA (spiral magnetic open trap) device. As a result of combining plug systems, the density of the confined plasma has tripled.

During the experiments, the operation of a multi-plug helical section with the addition of regions with a stronger magnetic field was tested. The results showed that each system for improving plasma confinement effectively suppresses the flow without interfering with each other.

In the future, physicists plan to create a plasma in an open trap in which ions are strongly heated and collide rarely due to high temperature. This will allow for future experiments.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that the walls of ITER will be made of tungsten instead of beryllium.
