Armor-piercing projectiles with a large elongation core, unified with the M256 Abrams and Rh120 Leopard-2A4 guns, may appear on the front. In this regard, Russian engineers need to adapt the 125-mm 2A82-1 guns for T-14 "Armata" tanks to the modification of the main battle tank T-90M "Proryv-3", according to military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
He noted that SHARD projectiles have an initial velocity of 1720 to 1734 m/s. The ammunition has an armor penetration of about 970 - 1050 mm, posing a serious threat to the frontal projections of the T-90M MBT.
Kinetic "Vacuum-1/2" projectiles have similar armor penetration, which, due to their large elongation, cannot be used from the charging chambers of the standard 2A46M-5 guns of the T-90M MBT.
The 2A82-1 gun is capable of firing both all existing 125-mm ammunition and new promising ones, including enhanced-power armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot projectiles 3BM59 "Svinets-1" and 3BM60 "Svinets-2" with a length of 740 mm, as well as new ones specially designed for the T-14.
The gun does not have an ejection device to remove the powder gases formed during firing. The problem of gas contamination was solved by introducing more efficient innovative technologies.
