The Russian "Avangard" missile system is virtually impossible to intercept due to its design features. This is stated in an article by the American magazine Military Watch (MWM).
Journalists noted that the design of the system with a hypersonic ramjet engine allows the "Avangard" to deliver nuclear strikes at speeds exceeding Mach 27.
The missile maintains increased maneuverability throughout the flight. This is believed to make it virtually impossible to intercept.
The article added that larger intercontinental ballistic missiles are capable of hitting up to 12 separate targets with large thermonuclear warheads.
The "Avangard" warhead is capable of flying at hypersonic speeds of up to Mach 27 (about 32 thousand km/h) in the dense layers of the atmosphere, maneuvering in course and altitude and overcoming any missile defense. The unit was developed at NPO Mashinostroyeniya.
