Rosatom has completed the first stage of reactor tests of fuel for a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) under extremely high temperatures, the state corporation's press service reported.
HTGR is a key element of the future nuclear power and technological station. It is designed for the production of low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia.
Reactor tests at temperatures around 1600°C, carried out by specialists from JSC "SSC RIAR" (an enterprise of Rosatom's scientific division) in 2024, confirm the operability of the developed fuel design in case of abnormal operation, and allow for the formation of a well-founded understanding of the design limits of HTGR fuel operation to ensure the safe operation of the HTGR reactor.
The second stage of similar work is planned for 2025, during which fuel samples will be tested at temperatures up to 1,800°C.
Earlier,www1.ru reported that Rosatommanufactured experimental fuel for the promising BN-1200 reactor.
