Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko was presented with a promising nuclear energy project — the BN-1200M power unit — during a working trip to the Sverdlovsk Region. This was reported by the press service of Rosenergoatom.
The parliamentarian was accompanied by Ivan Sidorov, Director of the Beloyarsk NPP. He told Matvienko about the importance of the fourth-generation reactor, which is necessary for the country's sustainable development.
According to Sidorov, the key advantage of the BN-1200M is the reuse of nuclear fuel, including the so-called "uranium tails." This reduces the amount of radioactive waste and reduces the cost of storing it.
The BN-1200M project will be an important step towards environmentally friendly and energy-efficient nuclear energy in Russia.
