Specialists from the Railway Transport Engineering Center presented the approved model of the first Russian high-speed train, which will reach speeds of up to 400 km per hour. It was named "White Gyrfalcon".
This train, which is scheduled to launch in 2028, will connect Moscow and St. Petersburg in just 2 hours and 15 minutes. The train will consist of eight cars, in which all equipment will be located either above or below the cars and covered with a fairing to reduce aerodynamic drag. The new train will include cars with compartments, seats for first and business class passengers, as well as a bistro car.
The train will be completely Russian. Enterprises from various cities in Russia, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and others, will participate in its development. Russian Railways has already signed a contract with "Ural Locomotives" for the manufacture, certification and supply of two high-speed electric trains for HSR for 12 billion rubles.
By 2030, it is planned to put into operation 43 such trains for the high-speed railway (HSR). One of the important elements for ensuring a smooth ride will be special rails, the length of which will be 100 meters, and not the traditional 25 meters. These rails will be able to withstand temperature changes down to -60 degrees. Also, to counteract wheel slip, as in the "Sapsan", quartz sand will be poured onto the rails.
The design code of the cars has already been approved, and the interior is expected to be approved in 2025. The car composition will have a high turnover rate: in 15 minutes, passengers should have time to get off the train, after which cleaning and boarding of new passengers will be carried out. The new train will also be equipped with a children's room, a kitchen with a bar and an entertainment multimedia system. The assembly of the first train sample for HSR is scheduled for 2026, and certification for 2028.
The new high-speed train, which will connect Moscow and St. Petersburg, will be named "White Gyrfalcon". This name will continue the tradition of giving trains the names of birds, such as "Sapsan", "Lastochka" and others.
