The An-2 plane, which went missing on December 19 in Kamchatka during a flight between the villages of Milkovo and Ossora, was discovered on December 22.
According to the Kamchatka Regional Search and Rescue Base, the site of the plane's emergency landing was discovered with the help of a Mi-8 helicopter. There were two pilots, one passenger, and 800 kg of cargo on board. All three people were found alive. Rescuers evacuated them from the scene.
The plane, which took off at 13:00 (local time) on December 19, encountered icing after several hours of flight. This led to a loss of speed and altitude. The crew tried to fly away from the mountain range, but the plane still made a hard landing on the snow, overturning in the process. One of the crew members was blocked by cargo. In order to keep warm and survive, the pilots burned fuel in a bucket and melted snow, as they had no water supplies.
As a result of the accident, the victims suffered traumatic brain injuries and hypothermia, but their lives are not in danger. The men were taken to the Milkovo District Hospital. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and a criminal case has been opened for violation of air transport safety rules.
The pilots said that during the flight, their plane at some point began to lose speed, and the instruments showed extremely low altitude values. At one point, the instruments showed only 10 meters to the ground, after which a hard landing occurred. However, thanks to the use of an emergency radio beacon and a fortunate fall on the snow, the pilots and passenger survived.
