Two flares of the penultimate power level were recorded on the Sun on December 20, 2024. This was reported by the Institute of Applied Geophysics (FSBI "IPG").
On December 20, at 10:26 AM Moscow time, an M2.1 flare with a duration of 15 minutes was recorded in the X-ray range in sunspot group 3924 (S20W89). <…> At 2:18 PM Moscow time, an M2.5 flare with a duration of seven minutes was recorded in the X-ray range in sunspot group 3928 (S14E68).
Solar flares are classified by the power of X-ray radiation into five classes: A, B, C, M, and X. The minimum class A0.0 corresponds to a radiation power at Earth's orbit of 10 nanowatts per square meter, and with the transition to the next class, the power increases by a factor of 10.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the Earth is threatened by a solar superflare capable of throwing humanity back into the Stone Age.
