Crews of Russian main battle tanks T-72B3M and T-80BVM need to be more careful in battle with the Swedish advanced modification of the German Leopard — the Swedish Strv-122.
The Strv 122 gun system is identical to the Leopard-2A5 and is represented by the Rh120/L44 smoothbore gun. It is capable of firing DM53A1 armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot projectiles with an initial velocity of 1670 m/s and armor penetration of 700 - 730 mm.
In a frontal battle on difficult terrain, this vehicle can pose a serious threat to the T-72B3M and T-80BVM with equivalent resistance of frontal armor plates of turrets 570 - 650 mm and 600 - 800 mm, respectively.
Nevertheless, Russian soldiers often hit them with Tula 9M119M1 "Invar-M" ATGMs at a distance of 4500 - 5000 m. And even more often, Strv 122 become targets of FPV kamikaze "Lancet" operators.
