On December 19, Russian cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin and Ivan Wagner will perform a spacewalk. As part of this extravehicular activity (EVA), they will install the SPIN-X1-MVN X-ray spectrometer on the Zvezda module of the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS). This device will allow scientists to conduct regular surveys of the celestial sphere in the X-ray range.
In addition to installing the spectrometer, the cosmonauts will replace four fixing plates that ensure reliable cable connections. They will also dismantle two devices for the Test experiment, two panels from the Endurance experiment, and the Indicator-ISS scientific equipment installed on the module in June 2013.
To complete their mission, the cosmonauts will transfer the external control panel EMMI for the ERA robotic arm to the Nauka module. At the end of the exit, Alexey Ovchinin will send a package with dismantled fixing plates and protective covers into space.
The opening of the Poisk module's exit hatch is scheduled for 18:10 Moscow time, and the duration of the exit will be 6 hours 43 minutes. The live broadcast can be seen on Roscosmos' VK Video, starting at 18:00 Moscow time.
