The American missile defense system THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) can be compared with the domestic anti-aircraft missile system S-400 "Triumph", but the American design is inferior to the S-400. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a direct line in Gostiny Dvor.
THAAD is more modern, similar to our S-400. But the characteristics of the American system are "weaker".
The THAAD complex was adopted in 2008, it is designed for high-altitude exoatmospheric interception of medium-range missiles or enemy aircraft. The THAAD battery consists of six self-propelled launchers, which carry eight anti-missiles each, equipment and radars for fire control and communications.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the first regiment in history with the S-500 Prometheus air defense system is completing its formation: a reliable shield of the Russian sky against ballistic missiles.
