Russian President Vladimir Putin has demanded that airlines cease the practice of understating ticket benefits. During the "Year-End Review," he instructed the government and aviation companies to resolve this issue no later than January 14, 2024.
Families with children, including those with many children, are entitled to a privilege — 50% off the cost of airline tickets. However, airlines often offer their own special conditions, which they call non-standard fares. Because of this, large families cannot take advantage of the benefit they are entitled to.
This practice must be stopped. I fully agree with you and ask the government and aviation companies together to resolve this issue no later than January 14 of next year. We will solve this problem.
The President also noted that the air transportation industry in Russia is demonstrating stable performance. According to him, last year airlines carried about 105 million passengers, and this year an increase to 111 million is expected.
Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovoit reported that he has already begun working with airlines to provide families with children a 50% discount on tickets. In addition, there are plans to work on the issue of seating children next to their parents on airplanes.
Decisions will be made by mid-January 2025
