Последствия крушения танкеров: зона загрязнения мазутом у побережья Анапы выросла до 49 км

4,000 Volunteers Enlisted to Clean Up the Area

Cleanup of beaches from fuel oil contamination continues in the Anapa and Temryuk districts of the Krasnodar Territory following the tanker accident in the Kerch Strait. The contamination has spread across 49 kilometers of coastline. 4,000 volunteers have joined emergency services to help.

Specialists from the Ministry of Emergency Situations and volunteers have already surveyed over 29 kilometers of coastline, identifying contaminated areas from the village of Veselovka to the beach of the "Sibur-Yug" sanatorium. Vityazevo and Blagoveshchenskaya have become volunteer centers, and containment booms have been installed in the area of the Bugaz Spit.

The accident occurred on December 15 when the tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" crashed in the Kerch Strait due to a storm. Both tankers were carrying 9.2 thousand tons of fuel oil, which contaminated the coastline as a result of leaks. A state of emergency has been declared in the Krasnodar Territory in connection with the incident.

Rosrybolovstvo and VNIRO are conducting surveys of the contaminated areas and collecting samples for analysis to assess the damage to aquatic biological resources.

Experts hope that the contamination will be localized into large spots that can be collected thanks to the cold water of the Black Sea, which slows the spread of fuel oil.
