SSK Zvezda is completing the construction of the first five LNG carriers for the Arctic LNG-2 project. These vessels are crucial for the project's implementation, and their completion has become one of the top priorities.
At the XIV International Forum "Arctic: Today and the Future," Nikita Melnik, Deputy Head of the Civil Shipbuilding Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, emphasized that the first five vessels are in the final stages of construction, with a readiness level of about 90%.
A total of 15 LNG carriers for this project will be built at the SSK Zvezda facilities in the Primorsky Territory. It is important to note that currently, civilian orders for the construction of large-capacity vessels are carried out exclusively at this shipyard, which emphasizes its strategic importance for the Russian shipbuilding industry.
The Arctic LNG-2 project aims to develop the Arctic shelf and is an important part of expanding Russia's capabilities in the extraction and transportation of natural gas.
