The Strategic Missile Forces of Russia have completed the re-equipment of a division in the Orenburg region with the "Avangard" missile system with a hypersonic warhead. This was announced by the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces Sergey Karakaev.
According to him, the units have almost completely fulfilled the re-equipment plans.
In 2023, the Strategic Missile Forces completed the deployment for combat duty of missile regiments equipped with the "Avangard" missile system. Mine launchers controlled by unified command posts "Bugay" were put into operation.
He added that in 2025, the re-equipment of the missile division in Kozelsk with the "Yars" missile system will be completed. The Strategic Missile Forces also plan to re-equip the Tatishchevo missile division with the "Yars" missile system.
The "Avangard" is a strategic missile system with a ballistic intercontinental missile equipped with a separable hypersonic maneuvering warhead.
Thanks to this, the missile is capable of bypassing stationary anti-missile defense systems, and a speed of 27 Mach makes it virtually invulnerable to existing interception systems.
Earlier www1.ru reported that MLRS "Smerch" and "Tornado-S" will approach the power of "Iskander" thanks to new 300-mm shells.
