From the beginning of 2025, passengers will be able to transport pets in the premium carriages of the Federal Passenger Company (FPC) trains without buying the entire compartment.
Deputy Head of FPC (a subsidiary of Russian Railways) Stanislav Zotin announced that now, to transport a pet in a carrier, it will be sufficient to issue a special receipt. The changes are being introduced in response to numerous requests from passengers.
For example, on the branded train No. 104 Moscow — Adler, where all carriages are of a premium class, it will be possible to pay only for the animal. In the case of buying the entire compartment, the issuance of a transportation document for the pet will remain free. Currently, the cost of transporting an animal depends on the distance and ranges from 427 to 5073 rubles.
The changes in the transportation rules follow the incident with the cat Twix. The pet died after being mistakenly considered stray and released onto the street. This case caused a wide public outcry and became a reason for revising the norms. Now, conductors in such situations are obliged to transfer pets to employees of stopping points with a subsequent call to animal rights activists.
These innovations are aimed at increasing the comfort of passengers with pets and protecting domestic animals during trips.
