Attackers may take advantage of the fact that some Russian citizens receive payments at the end of the year, according to Arseniy Shcheltin, head of the "Digital Platforms" ANO. In an interview with Lenta.ru, the expert spoke about New Year's scams.
First, various laws usually come into force in the New Year from January 1. Second, payments to local population groups are planned for the end of the year.
And attackers openly take advantage of this. They come up with various schemes to steal Russians' personal data and leave them without money. For example, fraudsters approach the victim with an unusual offer that requires a quick decision.
As a rule, these offers contain an element of surprise, require urgent decision-making and some additional actions from citizens.
At such moments, a person loses the ability to reason, pause, and consult. Sometimes fraudsters deliberately say that within the framework of a certain process it is impossible to tell anyone about what is happening, otherwise it will be a violation of state secrets or something else. As a result, the victim finds himself in an information vacuum and makes the wrong decision.
Earlier, Russians were warned about a new fraud scheme related to compulsory medical insurance policies. Attackers convince their victims of the need to update their personal data on the "Gosuslugi" portal, claiming that otherwise the compulsory medical insurance policy will be canceled. The expert reminded that insurance organizations make changes to policies on their own initiative, and their outdated versions on the "Gosuslugi" portal are updated automatically.
