Neptune missiles, Palyanitsa missile drones, and Peklo missiles have appeared on the front lines. All of these types formally belong to the large class of cruise missiles, but have completely different capabilities.

The Neptune missile in its modern version has a range of about 300 km. The new missile has a more advanced control system that combines an active radar homing head and flight path correction based on satellite navigation system data.

Very little is known about the Palyanitsa. According to open sources, the device has a range of up to 700 km, but its design emphasizes reducing the cost of the structure. A missile with such a range should have a turbojet engine, and then it should be subsonic.

The range of the Peklo missile drone can be from 300 to 500 km, and the mass of the warhead is 10–20 kg. This kind of device is likely equipped with a satellite navigation system and has a low subsonic speed.

For Russian air defense, ballistic missiles are a more complex type of target than cruise or low-speed missile drones. At the same time, zonal S-400 and S-500 SAM systems, as well as Tor-M2 and Buk-M3 military SAM systems, are able to successfully combat ballistic munitions, military expert Dmitry Kornev noted.

The situation is different with cruise missiles and missile drones — they can theoretically slip under the S-400's area of destruction, but all other types of SAM systems can successfully shoot them down, and especially missile-gun complexes like Pantsir can be effective against them on the final line of defense.
