Images have appeared online showing an improved Russian Su-57 fighter jet. It is equipped with a new type of engine nozzle, the AL-51F1, with a thrust vector control. The radically designed exhaust system is intended to improve the aircraft's stealth characteristics.
As can be seen in the diagram, the nozzle has four independently controlled flaps that change the cross-section of the air outlet and the thrust vector. Of these flaps, which are installed at an angle, two are reportedly for use in subsonic mode, and two for supersonic flight.
The images also show that the guide flaps are ventilated, which, combined with the air passing through these areas, will help cool the exhaust gases and reduce the aircraft's infrared signature.
Initially, this engine design was not planned for the Su-57, as a flat nozzle reduces thrust, and the aircraft went into production with a classic radial design. However, modern challenges require reducing visibility on enemy radars, even at the cost of some speed loss.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the naval MLRS A-22 «Ogon» was combined with the «Motolyga» at the forefront.
