Russia and India are finalizing a multi-billion dollar deal for the purchase of the Voronezh over-the-horizon radar system. Western sanctions have forced Moscow to export its "key defense technologies". This is reported by Defence blog.
The contract is estimated at $4 billion. It is known that about 60% of the system will be produced in India. More than 50 companies will be involved in this.
The project will be supervised by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), a division of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India. It is likely that the radar will be installed in the city of Chitradurga, Karnataka.
Russia began deploying Voronezh radar systems in 2012, and there are currently at least 10 units in operation. Only Russia, China, and the United States have radar systems with a range of over 5,000 kilometers.
