The "Garage 54" YouTube channel is once again surprising viewers with non-standard approaches to car modding. This time, the team decided to conduct an unusual experiment - the modders attached half wheels to a VAZ-2109.
The idea was simple: to cut standard wheels in half, install two axles, and connect them so that the wheel halves rotate synchronously using a chain. But, as expected, the project was not without its problems.
Wheels consisting of halves interact with the road differently. When one of the half wheels falls into a hole or bump, the second wheel may catch up with a delay, causing shaking and vibration of the car. In some cases, the car even got stuck.
If you drive slowly and carefully, the result is quite acceptable, but when you increase speed or collide with obstacles, sharp impacts occur, causing discomfort. One of the main disadvantages is that even small road irregularities lead to uneven movement, as the second wheel does not always perfectly synchronize with the first. This causes additional "shock" moments and increases discomfort for the driver and passengers.
Overall, although the project is an interesting technical experiment, it showed that using half wheels in real conditions greatly complicates driving and is not practical for everyday use.
