A modern digital "smart tram" system is being introduced on new trams in Chelyabinsk, capable of independently analyzing obstacles in the way and, if necessary, braking the car. This was announced by Alexander Egorov, Deputy Minister of Road Facilities and Transport of the region.
The system will signal the driver about a potential danger, and if necessary, the tram will be able to start braking on its own. This is a unique feature.
This year, 60 new trams were purchased for the city, of which 30 have already been accepted and paid for. Half of them will be semi-low-floor, the rest will be low-floor.
The Chelyabinsk authorities plan to install the "smart tram" system on 60 cars, and in the future to introduce it into the entire tram fleet. It should be noted that the "smart tram" system is currently used only in St. Petersburg. In Moscow, it is in the testing stage.
Another novelty in Chelyabinsk trams will be the upholstery of seats with wear-resistant fabric with a pattern that symbolizes the city. The peculiarity of the upholstery will become a sign of Chelyabinsk trams. If passengers like it, the authorities intend to extend it to buses as well.
As a reminder, the purchase of 60 trams, 50 trolleybuses and 270 buses - a total of 380 units of public transport - is planned for the Chelyabinsk agglomeration in 2024. More than 300 new vehicles have already arrived in the city.
