The US and NATO closely monitored joint exercises of the Russian Aerospace Forces and the Navy in the eastern Mediterranean. During the maneuvers, the Russian military launched high-precision missiles "Zircon", "Onyx" and "Caliber".
Thomas Newdick, an обозреватель of the American magazine TWZ, noted that various NATO and US forces were monitoring these exercises and likely obtained a lot of new high-quality intelligence data on "Zircon" and other Russian military systems.
He added that the "Zircon" missile, first demonstrated by the Russian Ministry of Defense, does not look like the experimental X-51 Waverider missile of the US Air Force at all.
It looks much more like the HyFly experimental hypersonic missile demonstrator. It is likely that "Zircon" has a common launcher with the "Onyx" missile and similar dimensions.
