The task of achieving air supremacy, in addition to directly destroying enemy SAM systems, includes neutralizing them using electronic warfare methods. Specialized EW aircraft in sufficient quantities can increase the safety and effectiveness of the Russian Aerospace Forces, noted military expert Sergei Marzhetsky.
He recalled that the military has Mi-8MTPR-1 army aviation EW helicopters, which are carriers of active jamming stations "Lever-AV" and "Lever-BV" — multi-beam antenna arrays. When forming signals in the station, DRFM technology is used, which guarantees stable reception of radar signals and their radio suppression throughout the entire area of operation.
The latest Mi-8MTPR-1 helicopter complex is designed to suppress electronic warfare systems for troops and weapons of various purposes of air and ground basing of the enemy (artillery, air defense, anti-aircraft artillery and anti-aircraft missile systems, fighters), as well as conducting reconnaissance.
Everything would be fine, but the Mi-8MTPR-1 is a rather "rare beast" in the army aviation of the Russian Armed Forces. It probably makes sense to increase the production volumes of these EW complexes, both in helicopter and aviation versions.
