The successful creation of the Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missile has paved the way for Russian engineers to develop technologies that can be exploited at even higher temperatures in the future. This forecast was voiced by the president of the National Research Center "Kurchatov Institute," Mikhail Kovalchuk.
He recalled that scientists had created hypersonic weapons in a short time, a material that previously worked at 1.5 thousand degrees, and directly in Oreshnik - 2 thousand degrees.
And we did it, but other parties did not. Today, the next step is 2.5–3 thousand degrees. Russia is among the top five leaders in this field. He expressed the opinion that in the process of further research, the country will again be able to obtain new types of weapons and materials.
Oreshnik is a medium-range ballistic missile with a flight speed of more than 12 km/h. It carries from three to six thermonuclear warheads with a capacity of 150 kilotons each. Putin has declared the non-nuclear use of the missile, but it can also carry a nuclear warhead.
