The prototype of the new Volgabus 5285 "Marathon" bus will receive a domestic YaMZ-537 engine. This is the first Russian engine in the last 10 years. Previously, the buses were equipped with American-made Cummins turbodiesel engines.
The vehicle was shown at the "PromEnergoVolga-2024" event. There, it was presented with a Chinese-made Cummins ISL 9.5 engine. Its power output was 383 hp. The bus will enter mass production with a domestic engine, which will also be installed on import-substituted LiAZ-621365 "accordions". The engine will be paired with a Chinese Fast Gear manual transmission.
As a reminder, Volgabus is currently equipped with Chinese Yuchai and Weichai engines.
