The Yamal-502 geostationary communications satellite, which will be built on the latest space platform developed by Gazprom SPKA, may be launched from the cosmodrome in the spring of 2030. This was reported to TASS by a company representative.
The enterprise Gazprom SPKA LLC, together with its cooperation involved in the creation of the satellite, is ready to start work. It is possible to manufacture the device and send it to the cosmodrome by the spring of 2030.
Andrey Yakovlev, chief designer and head of the design bureau of Gazprom SPKA, announced on November 12 the development of a new satellite platform for heavy and medium geostationary vehicles.
The company does not single out the creation of the platform as a separate project, but integrates it into the Yamal-502 satellite project. This allows you to significantly save resources. The preliminary design of the platform has already been completed, and it is planned to begin the preliminary design in the near future.
The Yamal-502 satellite is being developed to expand the business of providing broadband satellite services in the Ka-band for a wide range of users. In addition, it will provide communication for mobile objects, such as commercial air, sea, road and rail transport.
This is a modern geostationary telecommunications satellite equipped with a software-defined digital payload. It is capable of providing multi-beam coverage and solving a wide range of tasks in the northern regions of the country, Eastern Siberia and the Far East.
