A new method for creating protective and decorative coatings with increased reflectivity has been developed and patented at the Belgorod State Technological University (BSTU) named after Shukhov. The glass microsphere-based coating will ensure the safety, energy efficiency, and aesthetics of real estate and will cost less than its counterparts.
The production of special coatings involves preparing an aqueous solution of liquid glass, which is applied to the face of the autoclaved product and dried. Then, the surface of the building material with the coating is subjected to plasma melting until a silicate melt is formed. The final stage is the process of air spraying of glass microspheres with a size of 250-630 micrometers, while the air stream simultaneously cools the melt.
The spraying is carried out using an air stream from a compressor, which simultaneously sprays glass microspheres onto the surface of the product and cools the silicate melt.
As explained to IA "TASS" in the Ministry of Education and Science, this method provides high adhesion strength of the coating to the surface of the product. At the same time, the costs of creating such a coating are lower than those of similar developments, which require the use of high temperatures to obtain coatings.
