A mathematical model to ensure the safe operation of fast neutron reactors has been created at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) and the Joint Institute for High Temperatures (JIHT RAS). This was reported by the university's press service.
The development describes the behavior of the outer layer of the nuclear reactor's protective film under various operating conditions.
The thin oxide layer performs a crucial function - it protects the structure's walls from corrosion. The proposed modeling option will significantly save on experimental tests and mathematically justify safe operating modes for future reactors.
The mathematical model also prevents overheating of the active zone of the fast neutron reactor.
The model developed as part of a joint project between MIPT and JIHT RAS allowed us to consistently and coherently explain corrosion experiments in which partial or complete dissolution of the outer layer of the oxide film was observed, without the need for additional phenomena such as erosive thinning of the oxide layer in the coolant flow.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Rostec concreted the dome of the reactor compartment at the first unit of the Akkuyu NPP.
