A stealthy tactical missile Taurus manufactured by Germany and Sweden may appear on the front line. Military analyst Evgeny Damantsev explained how Russia can defend against the new dangerous ammunition.
He recalled that in addition to the standard range of 350 km, ultra-low-altitude trajectory and a small reflecting surface of 0.01 - 0.03 m², the missile is equipped with a high-power single-pulse electromagnetic microwave warhead.
Therefore, it is capable of disabling the radio-electronic element base of air defense missile system illumination radars, tactical information exchange and communication radio stations, electronic warfare and radio intelligence systems.
Thus, the priority task of the Russian Aerospace Forces will be to intercept these missiles on the distant approaches to anti-aircraft missile brigades and other critical nodes with electronic means, the analyst noted. For this purpose, multifunctional Su-35S fighters and MiG-31BM interceptors can be used, which will detect Taurus up to 100 km.
Then, interception can be performed by R-74M and R-77-1 missiles at a distance from ground-based air defense systems. Also, over-the-horizon interception from A-50U aircraft with 9M317MA anti-aircraft missiles is a priority. 9M96DM and 40N6 of the Buk-M3, S-350A Vityaz and S-400 complexes.
