The popular online clicker Hamster Kombat is once again becoming bait in the hands of fraudsters. They offer Russians, on behalf of the developers, to "be the first to test the new season" of the game, in which many new surprises and game mechanics have been officially announced.
To do this, cybercriminals, as reported to Izvestia by Kaspersky Lab, continue to register new domain names for "Hamster."
There are schemes in which cybercriminals try to gain access to the cryptocurrency wallets of potential victims under the guise of a giveaway. To receive tokens, the user needs to follow the link from the email and complete certain tasks. If a player clicks on a fake link, they will be taken to a fake website of a large cryptocurrency exchange, where they will be asked to connect their wallet. As a result of activity on the site, a person risks losing their savings, and they will not receive any monetary prize.
The clicker game Hamster Kombat with Russian roots, where you had to "upgrade" a hamster character, became one of the major events of 2024 in the crypto world. It captured not only Russia and the CIS countries, but also Europe and Asia: at the peak of the project, in August, 300 million people were "tapping the hamster" and earning coins. The popularity of the game was actively used by fraudsters. With the help of a number of schemes, they massively stole Telegram accounts, money from cards, and crypto wallets of players.
Listing of the game currency began at the end of September, at the same time it was announced the imminent start of the second season of the hamster's adventures in the big city. However, after the listing, most of the players left the mini-application: the conversion of game millions into tokens turned out to be not as profitable as expected. As of November 9, Hamster Kombat on Telegram has just over 35.4 million active users.
