Pakistani authorities have approached Russia with a request to purchase the S-350 Vityaz medium-range anti-aircraft missile system (SAM). This is according to Bulgarian Military.
According to sources in Asia, this is Pakistan's second attempt to acquire Russian air defense systems. Previously, the South Asian state requested the S-400, but Russia rejected this request, citing its partnership with India.
Russia's decision to refuse Pakistan the supply of S-400 is in line with its principles of selling weapons in South Asia. Russia is trying to prevent the escalation of the conflict between India and Pakistan. Moscow seems to be afraid of fueling a regional arms race.
The S-350 is inferior to the S-400 in terms of its technical characteristics. Consequently, Pakistan is ready to strengthen its defense infrastructure, but without directly threatening India.
