Reports of imminent deliveries of Russian 4++ generation Su-35 multirole fighter jets to Iran are false, according to Iranian publication Fararu.
According to Bulgarian Military, the news about the possible shipment of Su-35 aircraft by Russia appeared in media outlets linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). However, there has been no official confirmation of this information.
The Iranian Defense Ministry has only confirmed that the country has received Mi-28N attack helicopters and Yak-130 trainer aircraft from Russia.
Tehran discussed the purchase of next-generation fighters with Moscow in 2015. Initially, the Iranian authorities were interested in the Su-30 multirole fighters, but then turned their attention to the more advanced Su-35.
Later, Iran and Russia signed a memorandum of understanding on mutual assistance and technical support. The document also provided for the possibility of purchasing Su-35 fighters. It was expected that the Islamic Republic would purchase about 20 aircraft.
In 2023, Iranian media periodically reported on the "upcoming" arrival of Su-35 aircraft, and some military publications even claimed that the fighters would be delivered "in the coming days."
