Specialists of the «Baltic Shipyard» in St. Petersburg have begun mooring trials of the steam turbine unit of the starboard side of the nuclear icebreaker «Yakutia» (project 22220) under construction with steam supply from the reactor. This was reported by the press service of the plant.

Employees of the plant will check the operation of the main and auxiliary steam system, condensate-feed system, lubrication and cooling system of the steam turbine unit. In addition, they will test the turbogenerator in various power modes.

Prior to this, commissioning works were carried out on systems and mechanisms that ensure the operation of the PTU-72 steam turbine unit, and the reactor plant was launched.

About the icebreaker «Yakutia»

«Yakutia» is the 4th nuclear-powered ship of project 22220. Currently, 3 more similar icebreakers are being built in St. Petersburg by order of «Atomflot» — «Chukotka», «Leningrad» and «Stalingrad».

According to data from open sources, the cost of building the icebreaker is estimated at 51 billion rubles. It is expected to be commissioned at the end of 2024.
