A forgotten project for the MiG-29M2 and MiG-35S fighter family is the "Zhuk-AME" airborne radar. It was based on a promising active phased antenna array with microwave transistors, noted military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
He noted that the "Zhuk-AME" radar was expected to provide MiG-35S or MiG-29KUB pilots with the ability to detect targets like the Typhoon FGR.4 at 200 - 210 km, and targets like the F-15E — at 270 km.
At the same time, unlike foreign radars with a fixed antenna array, the "Zhuk-AME" was supposed to have a movable array, which would provide the ability to view the side hemispheres with a 15 - 20-degree coverage of the rear hemisphere.
