The second "Koppi" vessel, project RST38, an oily (oil-containing) water collector, has begun sea trials. The shipbuilders of the Oka Shipyard built it according to the design of KB "Marine Engineering Bureau — SPb" for the North-Eastern Basin Branch of Rosmorport.
"Koppi" is a kind of small sanitary worker of seas and rivers:
- collects oily water from ships, settles and separates it, pumping petroleum products into the oil residue tank and delivering the oil residue ashore to the storage facility. Separated clean water is sent ashore or overboard in areas permitted for its discharge;
- collects sewage and garbage from ships, transporting and delivering them to shore treatment facilities;
- when retrofitted, it can operate as an auxiliary transport for delivering oil spill response equipment and booms to the site of an oil spill (outside the emergency spill zone).
In addition, "Koppi" has its own innovative oil spill detection system, built on the processing and analysis of data obtained from a standard radar station using additional software.
